Downtown was made for you and me!

Donna Tarpinian Downtown is Your Town

Downtown is your town; Downtown is my town

From the railroad depot to the Page Street stoplight

From Cooper’s Causeway

all the way down to Mandt Park

Downtown was made for you and me.

1

As I was walking this ribbon of highway

A sign above me said “US Highway 51” (NOTE: should be spoken instead of sung)

But my heart tells me it’s really OUR Main Street….

Downtown is where we want to be.

2

Highway construction will come to Downtown

We’ll see destruction, but there’s no need to frown

We’ll make improvements and save our history

Our Library came from Carnegie.

3

Downtown is lovely, let’s make it lively

Let’s make it social, downright bee-hive-y!

Bring folks together, let’s make ‘em happy…

Downtown’s the HEART of our City!

4

Time to protect it and pay it forward

Don’t let this road work leave us a ghost town

Step up like Stoughton’s volunteers before us,

Our turn to make some history!
